Welcome to the Women for Cy page. I am deeply committed to fighting for the rights of women, be it at the workplace, home, or throughout Manhattan. Far too many women are the victims of domestic violence and sexual violence. My plan to fight both can be found here on this webpage. We have a growing list of women supporting me, and I hope you will become one as well. Thank you for taking the time to visit my website and to learn more about my plans to protect women and families.

Cy Vance will ensure that the particular experiences and concerns of women will be integrated into the development of all major reforms and programs, including prevention, alternatives to incarceration and re-entry. As such, Cy will partner with community-based organizations and nonprofit groups representing and serving women, along with other groups, as part of his "community-based justice" approach.

Cy for Women: Cy's Plans and Priorities
“By declaring it a public health crisis and creating a practical action plan to address it -- including a Family Justice Center in Manhattan -- Cy Vance has earned our support. The presence of two other good candidates in this race should not keep us from supporting one who stands out for his insight and leadership in an area that disproportionately affects women and children, and that also normalizes violence outside the family. That's why I am supporting Cy Vance for Manhattan District Attorney.”
Gloria Steinem
Feminist, Author, Activist, Journalist
Cy has worked for many years to protect the rights of women and families. Cy has worked with the Women’s Policy Committee to develop his tough platform to ensure the safety of all New Yorkers.
Among Cy's Plans and Priorities:
- Domestic violence is the one form of violent crime that has resisted the citywide drop in crime over the past decade. It is a type of crime that normalizes and perpetuates violence beyond the home. Click here to read Cy's Plan to Stop Domestic Violence. You can also download Cy's full five page plan to Reduce Violence Against Women, Children and Intimate Partners here. Specifically, the plan looks at ways to tackle Domestic and Intimate Partner Violence, Rape (both Stranger and Acquaintance), Human/Sex Trafficking, and Stalking.
- For too long, the Rockefeller drug laws have torn apart families and disproportionately affected minority communities by imposing harsh sentences on those addicted to drugs. Cy Vance has been a long-time advocate for drug law reform. You can read about his position on Drug Law Reform here.
- Approximately 38% of the 26,000 prisoners released from New York State prisons every year will return within three. Cy Vance has offered a Plan to Reduce Recidivism by enhancing Reentry services for these offenders. You can download the full four page white paper here.
Thanks to the many women who provided their invaluable expertise and time in helping Cy develop his plan to protect women and families. Cy is proud to have their support and the support of women leaders, advocates, lawyers, case workers and looks forward to continuing the good work with them and making real progress.

A History of Fighting for Women
"Cy is the most experienced candidate in the race, and he has the support of those who best understand what is needed in our next DA. He has served as an outstanding prosecutor, criminal defense lawyer, commissioner for sentencing reform and community leader. But perhaps most importantly, through his long career, he has maintained the ability to combine pragmatism and idealism to achieve justice."
Caroline Kennedy
Activist, Author, Attorney
Throughout Cy's legal career, he has developed a reputation as a strong advocate on behalf of women and our most vulnerable populations.
Some highlights from Cy's legal career:
- As a civil litigator, the firm that Cy helped found oversaw one of the most significant promotion and pay discrimination class action lawsuits ever filed. For years, women at the Boeing Corporation had been the victims of systematic gender discrimination by the company. The lawsuit not only resulted in a substantial settlement for those affected, it fundamentally changed the way that Boeing treats its female workforce.
- There is no stronger testament to the virtues of providing alternatives to incarceration for those who need it most than the story of Pam Bowens. As a young prosecutor, Cy recognized this when he served as Pam's prosecutor, and diverted her into drug rehabilitation instead of prison. Today, Pam, who went on to graduate from college with honors, is a certified substance abuse counselor herself, and works to help those suffering from HIV and AIDS get the services they need.
- Cy's understanding of the devastating and far reaching effects of domestic violence was developed early in his career when he successfully prosecuted the disturbed ex-fiancee of Susanna Jiminez. Her ex-fiancee followed Jiminez to her office at Smith Barney killing both Jiminez and a good Samaritan who came to her aide. Thanks to Cy's tough prosecution, Susanna Jiminez's killer never walked free. The case also drove home for Cy the importance of early intervention in domestic violence cases.
